Make-Up Products for Sensitive Skin

Let’s talk sensitive skin! When I was younger, I was more prone to break outs from dance make-up, not washing my face at night, and well…hormones. I didn’t wear much make-up until college and that’s when I learned that I had to be careful what products I put on my skin. If you read my post about skincare, then you already know this story but it’s important to tell again. I did a make-up trial for my wedding the day of my engagement session. It looked great but I could definitely feel some irritation throughout the shoot. I didn’t think much of it and 4-5 hours later I went to wash it off. I was completely broken out and blotchy red. Needless to say, we had to go a different route for the wedding day, and it all worked out! BUT, had I not done that trial, I would have had blotchy skin the first few days of my honeymoon.

I digress. I’ve found three brands that have worked really well for my skin over the last few years. I should also mention that I wear pretty minimal make-up because I can’t handle the caked on feeling!

First, BeautyCounter. I’ve actually been using their products for many years now, but three products have stayed at the top of my list the whole time. First, the Color Outline Eyeliner. I wear contacts and certain eyeliners/mascaras irritate my eyes. This product never has and it’s just a nice everyday wear. I will say that I tend to rub my eyes often and it does rub off pretty easily – just something to keep in mind. Second is the Radiant All Over Bronzer. I haven’t even bothered trying another bronzer because I love this one so much. I use shade Dune and it’s just such a nice compliment to my skin tone. Third, I loved the Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation and wore it religiously until I found IT Cosmetics (more on that in a second). I still love this product, but the IT Cosmetics has SPF and it does seem to stay on longer.

Speaking of, I first learned about IT Cosmetics when Founder, Jamie Kern Lima spoke at RISE in Dallas last year. They were giving all attendees a free CC Cream and it was a game changer. They had consultants there to help pick your shade and then gave you a full-size product.

I don’t use much foundation, so I actually just finished that first cream. It’s an amazing product! I ended up getting the Bye Bye Under Eye and Bye Bye Pores Illumination setting powder as well. I use all three items daily and, on those days, where I don’t want to do a full make-up look, I use a little under eye and setting powder and voila!

Last but not least, Tarte! I just started using Tarte products about a year ago, but I’ve definitely become an avid user! I tried one of their travel size sets to test the products and never stopped using the mascara and blush. Mascara has always been hard for me. I honestly only started incorporating it in my weekly routine once I started using the Lights, Cameras, Lashes by Tarte. It doesn’t make me want to rub my eyes and that’s the tea! No but seriously, I love this mascara and I’ve recently added the opening act lash primer and am loving how long it makes my lashes look. Last but not least, the Shape Tape eye primer and concealer. I love the eye primer and wear it daily. I use it as a base for eye shadow or even just to give my eyes a neutral pop when I don’t feel like doing a full make-up look. As for the concealer, I’ve only used it for a few weeks now but definitely love the added brightness it gives my face. I have found it works best under my eyes, on my nose and jawline, but that’s just my personal preference.

As always, let me know if you try any of these products and/or if you have any new suggestions for me to try!

Now pass the bubbly,

Jess
